We have been using the services of Phil Farnsworth since I started as church treasurer in 1995. The situation that I inherited was not a good one. The previous bookkeeper moved from the area abruptly and left a mess behind. The books were half converted to computer from a paper system, with neither one in order. The payroll taxes were behind, none of the fund accounts balanced, or even made any sense. The office was a tornado scene with mountains of random receipts, invoices, overdue bills, and un-reconciled bank statements. It took months just to figure out what was due, and how much money there was to pay it. I could go on for a while, but I think you get the picture.
Phil Farnsworth was a very important resource in getting things back in order. He was helpful with advise on computer software, payroll taxes, fund accounts, cleaning up the balance sheet and income statement, annual
giving records, and many other topics.
Now that things have been in order for several years our annual audits with Phil are very simple, but his service is still very valuable. It is important for our church to have an outside person examine our records to see that our offerings are counted and verified by people other than the treasurer. Also, that the deposits match what is counted, the annual giving records match the deposits, and the money is being spent on what it should be spent on. It is also important to have it verified that all of the funds are tracked using proper accounting procedures, and proper records are kept.
We have not had anybody challenge that integrity of our accounting system, but it is good to know that we that we have things in order, and we have an outside examiner that can attest to it.
Phil is a good Christian, and a good man. I would fully recommend him and his services to any church.
